Cost FAQs

What’s Selfcare vs Premium?

‍Selfcare is for patients who prefer to “pay-as-you-go” for the services used.

Premium is for patients who want the highest level of support and the most out of their post-operative journey. They also do not want to think about paying at each appointment.

What’s the cost difference?

The Premium package costs an additional $1750.

How long does the program last? The first 12 months after surgery is included.

Can I upgrade at a later date?

Yes. If you change your mind, even months after your operation, you can purchase the Premium Package. Just give the rooms a call to discuss it.

Can I self-fund my operation?

We recommend that patients take out Gold Cover with their health insurance. Please call the rooms when you have this cover, and we will hold a surgery date for you in the future that is covered. We can start your work-up for surgery well before 12 months. Time moves fast, and your surgery will happen sooner than you think!

Can I use superannuation for my operation?

You can use Superannuation for your surgery out-of-pocket fee. Our practice does require you to have Gold Cover (for hospital expenses). We help with the necessary paperwork from our rooms. You must also see your GP, who will complete their paperwork submission. You will then need to lodge both forms with the ATO. The ATO deals directly with you and will forward you the funds. The timeline from paperwork submission to the release of the funds is approximately six weeks.

Why do I pay upfront for surgery?

This surgery is a huge decision. Paying up front tells us that you’re focused on your health and committed to the process and procedure. We find that we have no late changes of mind if patients have paid before their operation. Payment is due 1-week before surgery at the latest. If this hasn’t occurred, we are obliged to take you off the list and give your slot to another general surgery patient.

If I change my mind before surgery, will I get my money back?

We understand that life can throw curveballs. If reasons are valid, we refund all your money, except your initial dietitian consultation fee. We do ask that you let us know well in advance so that we can offer your surgery slot to another willing patient. If you cancel within a week of surgery, we do retain a $500 administrative fee as we will not be able to fill your slot with another bariatric surgery patient at late notice.

Are costs fixed?

GAP/Out-of-Pocket fees are fixed. Occasionally additional procedures, like an undiagnosed hiatus hernia repair or division of adhesions, may need to be performed. Depending on your fund, we may request payment at MBS rates that will later be reimbursed to you. Should an issue arise in your operation or recovery in hospital, we may need to perform additional investigations eg. Blood tests/X-rays/CT scans and these may attract additional cost from the hospital, laboratory or radiology company.
